About

Hey!

I’m the Gestator, a 32-year-old, first-time, soon-to-be mom.  I work in education here in Durham, North Carolina.  I’m married to the Boy Scout (actually an Eagle Scout), who works in architecture by day and photography and graphic design by night.  We were both raised and lived most of our lives in different parts of rural, eastern North Carolina.  We even attended college there.  But, finally, after many years of building courage and talking big, we migrated to the big city – the Bull City – during the summer of 2008 (one day we will learn not to move in August).

The idea for this blog came about in April 2009, soon after we found out that we were expecting our first baby.  As newcomers to the area, we didn’t know the best place to go for anything!  We began asking friends, many of whom are childless and also Durham transplants, for resources on childcare, places to live, maternity clothes, and medical care.  Sometimes we got great advice and other times we had to figure it out the hard way.  After a friend suggested that a blog on the subject might bring helpful comments from other folks living in Durham we chewed on the idea for a while.  After brewing ideas for posts, I bit the bullet and started Bull City Baby.  I hope we can serve as a resource for others.

Thanks for joining us as we navigate Durham and our first baby, one (figure-it-out-the-hard-way) lesson at a time.
